The colourful world of gemstones offers a fascinating subject for study. Our programme provides the ideal in-depth introduction to the essential gemstone knowledge required for those wishing to become involved in the gemstone industry. You will learn how to safely examine and correctly identify gemstones.
Our gemstone education programme is comprised of a series of eleven one-week seminars in which we provide you with the necessary specialist knowledge on the various commercially important gemstones in theory and practice. You will learn everything you need to know to correctly identify gemstones, check their authenticity and possible treatments and sell them successfully.
You can attend the individual weekly seminars either in direct chronological order (full-time system) at reduced fees or with time breaks as required to suit your individual schedule. For the second option, it is necessary to start with the seminars ‘Gemmology 1’ and ‘Gemmology 2’ in order to acquire the necessary basic knowledge. You can take all other seminars individually in any order.
Each seminar concludes with an examination, and your successful completion will be certified. Once you have completed the entire course, we will prepare you for the DGemG gemmological examination in a special seminar. This examination comprises a theoretical and a practical part and enables you to independently issue gemstone reports. The examination ensures that you are able to apply the knowledge you have learnt in theory and practice.
Our Coloured Stones Programme will teach you:
- Gemstones and their characteristics
- Gemstone identification and authenticity testing
- Syntheses and imitations
- Enhancements/Treatments
- Economic aspects
- Valuation factors
- Writing of gemstone reports
