Study Gemmology at German Gemmological Association (DGemG)

In today's world the longest distances are becoming ever shorter, yet contact between people is becoming more and more impersonal, especially when it comes to buying and selling. With expensive products like jewellery and gemstones, you must offer more to your customer. Only expert professional advice and specific background information will turn those who buy your products into satisfied, and above all reliable, customers.

The Educational Training Center of the German Gemmological Association has been providing this specialized knowledge of gemstones, both in theory and practice, since it was founded in 1932. In particular, the laboratories, with their modern state of the art equipment, and the extensive gemstone collection, to which the students have access during class make it Europe's leading educational and research institute for gemstones. Get to know the characteristics, deposits, developments, and criteria for determining the value of gemstones. Develop or refine your ability to differentiate between gemstones and their imitations and forgeries. Meet interesting people from around the world who have one thing in common: Their fascination with gemstones.

The Training Center is located in the heart of the gemstone capital Idar-Oberstein. There, where centuries-old knowledge of traditional gemstone cutting blends with the modern creative impulses of local artists and studios, you will find all the requirements for hands-on training and education.

Your advantages at one glance:

  • Europe’s leading institute for training and research concerning gemmology since 1932.
  • Unique access to both theory AND practice in one location.
  • Nowhere else you will find comparable technical equipment or a more vast collection of reference and study samples (any current gemstone, synthetics and imitations).
